REF Duvall 5K/10K Runs:
It Was Fun in The Sun
After seemingly endless days of rain, sunny skies greeted the crowd that gathered for the 5th annual Duvall 5k/10k races, the kickoff of Saturday’s Duvall Days festivities. Blue skies and the challenge of one of the toughest 10K courses in Washington State beckoned a large crowd into town for the annual races. 500 runners/walkers turned out , including several heats of smiling young sprinters in the kid’s dashes!
Two-time All American
and Woodinville Head XC/T&F Distance Coach Eric Garner secured his place in
Duvall history by once again dominating the 5K course, winning for the 5th
time. Local speedsters Aiden Irish and Eastside Runners own Travis Adams
crossed soon after. The 5K women were led by Alice Fraser with last year’s
winner, Erica Pitman, close behind. Kiri Garruto had a great race, finishing
3rd overall. Other highlights this year centered on the 10K race,
with many strong performances. Chris Harig of Issaquah crossed the tape
first followed by Charles Michel and Jason Hect of Eastside Runners. Last
years Snoqualmie Valley Cup winner, Sarah Gist, took first for the women
followed closely by top local runners Adria Vondra and Andrea Wohlgemuth.
Many folks raced for the first time ever – others turned out as members of
local running, corporate or fundraising teams including Team Whirlwind, Team
Challenge, Redmond Ridge Physical Therapy Runners, Eastside Runners and Club
Northwest.
